Hu Yin Ping  

“Xiao Fang” is the first stage of the project Hu Xiaofang. It started in 2015 and is still ongoing. On a visit to her hometown in Sichuan in 2015, Hu Yinping found her mother and other mothers knitting shoddy hats in the town. Her mother’s time was sold as cheap as these hats. Back in Beijing, Yinping put her mother in contact with a friend under the pseudonym “Xiaofang.” She was arranged to buy the hats at a relatively high price. For the convenience of work, her mother learned modern ways of communication, such as surfing the Internet, chatting on WeChat, and using online banking. As her confidence boosted and learning to be self-reliant, she created a variety of “strange” hats based on her passion and sensitivity to the knitting yarn.
